A team of shadowy creatures were fighting over a little green gem. “And it looks like you’ve got a chance right now!” A green light twinkled outside, and was then covered by darkness. Easy as pie.” Mepple leaned back to relax. “Simple! You slide the Queen card, you get your little dress and stuff, you say a catchphrase. “So, what exactly makes me a Pretty Cure?” Mei asked. “Oh, that’s funny, our names sound alike! Mepple, Mei! Mepple, Mei!” Mepple chirped. ![]() “Well, with that little phrase, I’ll be sure to remember.” Mei tucked a lock of hair behind her ear. “I’m Mepple, mepo!” The little creature chirped. Once Ming had left the room (in a bit of a hurry, the two noticed), Mei continued to talk to the little creature. And he can talk.” Ming backed towards the door. “So this thing is like a Tamagotchi, but with cards. “Oh boy, yummy!” The little creature sipped his soup. “Your dinner,” said the little chef, presenting the yellow critter with a bowl of miso soup and rice on the side. A little confused, Mei slid the card through the slot at the bottom. “For now, use this one! I’m starved, mepo!” He pulled out the card with a little chef creature on it and then scrambled back into the pact. “I’ll explain as we go.” The little creature shrugged. Mei picked up the cards and leafed through them. “Just slide a card into the Card Commune, and the card will do the rest!” “Easy!” A handful of little cards fell out of the pact. “So, if you’re going to be ‘protecting’ my daughter, how exactly are we supposed to sustain you?” “Well, you always do find new ways to get up to shenanigans.” Ming took the little creature in her hand. “And if I was sent here, then you must be a Pretty Cure!” “They’re the ones who will protect the world from the evil forces of the Dotsuko Zone! And I’ve been sent to protect them!” “Legendary warriors, mepo!” The little creature hopped out of the pact to explain. “I’ve been sent to find the lost Pretty Cure, how do I know it’s you?” “I could ask you the same thing, mepo!” The little creature chirped. Mei caught it and looked at the little fella inside. “Looks like a blush compact.” Ming plucked it out of her daughter’s hands and examined it.Īfter a bit of fiddling, the compact popped open, and inside was a little yellow creature! “Hey!” “This draft is getting a bit too cold, let me shut this window.”Īs soon as she put her hands on the window to close it, a little pact flew into the room, bounced off the walls, and landed in Mei’s lap. “Perfect.” Ming rubbed her arms and approached the window. “That’s fine! A phone’s a phone!” Mei poofed back into her human form and set back down on the bed, bouncing like she had just ingested five whole pounds of sugar. Your father has some tech-savvy friends, so they’ll be able to wipe the old data off of it.” ![]() “Now, new cell phones cost quite a pretty penny, so we’re going to look for one second-hand first. “I suspected you’d react that way.” Ming took the plate back. Doing this, she poofed into her panda form, and tumbled off the bed, knocking the plate out of her mother’s hands, which she then caught, with the apple and orange slices all falling back onto the plate in a neat little pattern. Mei’s eyes went wide and sparkled, and she shrieked with joy. “You did very well in your first year of high school, and you’ve shown us that you can be responsible with minding the temple, so your father and I have been talking about getting you your first cell phone.” “So,” she began, sitting down on the bed. ![]() Ming entered the room with a plate of apple and orange slices. After a day of being mobbed by her friends (except Priya, who was mysteriously absent from school that day), being fussed over by her aunties, and of course, lots of sweets, she was curled up in her bed, testing out new styles of anime eyes with her new puffball pen, a present from Miriam.
